Cassia (Cinnamon) has a scientific name cinnamomum. Vietnamese cassia is mostly cultivated in mountainous provinces in the North. Commonly, Vietnamese cassia has two major harvesting seasons in year. The first season lasts from February to March – bringing the better quality. The other season starts harvesting in August. All parts of Vietnamese cassia trees are ingredients to make oil and spices.

According to the World Spices Association, Vietnam ranks third in world cinnamon production. Vietnamese cassia products are widely consumed in the world. The total export earnings are about USD 400 million per year.

 Vietnamese cassia: Process for export

There are many types of Vietnamese cassia products. Split cassia is most popular in countries of India, Bangladesh, and Yemen. In the meanwhile, cassia stick and cassia powder are mainly exported to developed countries in Asia, America and Europe. Broken cassia is used as ingredients in processed industries. In addition, local growers use cassia leaves to produce essential oil.
